Objective of the game

In KOTAKOTE, your goal is to be the first to win 5 challenge cards. On each challenge card, there is a drawing, sometimes even two, which you must copy as precisely as possible. You do this with your own set of Kotakote cards, cleverly combining the correct shape and the correct half of the drawing.

Everyone plays simultaneously, so while you’re searching for the right geometric shape in the correct color and the matching half of the drawing, your opponents are working just as hard. This makes KOTAKOTE a fast reaction game where you need sharp observation, good combining skills, and the courage to shout “KOTAKOTE” on time. Each round feels like a little puzzle race.

How to play

Before you start, decide together which game level you will play. On level 1, place the challenge cards with the side showing 2 images face up; on level 2, place them with the side showing 1 image face up. Shuffle the challenge cards and place the deck in the middle of the table. Each player then receives their own set of 4 Kotakote cards, which they hold in their hand.

Then flip the first challenge card and place it in the center so everyone can clearly see the image or images. From that moment on, everyone starts playing at the same time. Using only the cards you really need, try to replicate the image from the challenge card on the table. You place a geometric shape in the right color next to the half of the corresponding drawing so that together they form the correct picture as shown on the challenge card. If there are two images on the card, you must copy both correctly, adding extra excitement and challenge.

As soon as you think you’ve succeeded, loudly and clearly shout “KOTAKOTE.” Then everyone stops, and you check together if your drawing is correct. If all images are perfectly copied, you win the challenge card and keep it in your hand until the end of the game. If there is a mistake in your combination, you lose the challenge and must return a previously won challenge card if you have one. Both that card and the challenge card from this round go to the bottom of the deck, so they can reappear later in the game. Then everyone takes their own Kotakote cards and any won challenge cards back into their hand, shuffles them, and immediately starts a new round with a new challenge card. The energy stays high and rounds follow quickly until someone collects their fifth card.
